Leisure
Abingdon has over 30 music groups practising on many different levels and styles. To promote performance, classes and workshops the groups recently got together and created a music map of Abingdon and this map is published every quarter. The Abbey Grounds in Abingdon are a delightful recreation area and is located to the rear of the council offices. The Grounds are great place for children to play, especially in the summer months when the Pool is open (May to September). Parents will be able to relax and sunbathe as they watch their children.
Abingdon is also well known for its Visual Arts and Performing. The famous Theatre named Barter attracts visitors from across the world. The art exhibitions at William King Regional Arts Centre are also one of the most enjoyable leisure activities in Abingdon. On the third Monday in the month, Old Station Yard holds the town’s farmers market, which attracts many visitors. Interestingly, nights can be never long for anyone staying in Abingdon, well at least if you spend a night in one of the best known Abingdon hotels, namely the four-star, four-diamond Abingdon’s Martha Washington Inn.
There are many restaurants and cafes like The Starving Artist, Tavern and Peppermill to dine. For leisure activities one of the very best things to do is browsing in one of Abingdon’s very own unusual art, antique and collectable shops or try hiking and biking on the 34 mile Virginia Creeper Trail.
